They wrote back with instructions to uninstall and reinstall. I’ve just upgraded to the Messenger Live, and it still crashes. When I run the Apache server, it never crashes.

For the moment, I will continue to send error messages to Microsoft in the hope that they will correct the problem, but when I get tired of doing so, I will disable MSN on startup.

Uninstalled Google Desktop

I uninstalled Google Desktop because:

  1. It disappeared from my toolbar
  2. Updating Zonealarm requires GD shutdown
  3. I will reinstall after updating ZoneAlarm
  4. It gave an error message with MS Outlook

No sign of the Iiyama replacement yet

It’s almost a week since I reported a problem with an Iiyama ProLite H430. The replacement monitor, under a 3-year warranty, has not yet arrived. This drops the service rating for Iiyama to 3 stars (down from 4). A further week’s delay is liable to lose it another star.

Iiyama monitor broken - will replace under 3-year warranty

My Iiyama ProLite H430 monitor wouldn’t display anything this morning. Fortunately, I have a Dell 15″ display to use as a backup.

I phoned the Cambridge Computer store to see about repairing it. They informed me that the Iiyama display comes with a 3-year warranty.

So, I phoned Iiyama. They confirmed that it seems to be a backlighting failure. I asked if I could upgrade to a 19″ model, but they can’t do that. They will replace the unit as soon as they have an equivalent display in stock.

Not quite full marks (I have to wait), but good service all the same.

Suggestion for improving Outlook Spam/Phishing

I posted a message to Microsoft about a phishing email I received today in my Inbox.

  1. I can’t easily find a place for putting suggestions about improvements to Microsoft products on your website, hence I have use this form.
  2. Specifically, an improvement to Outlook spam/phishing protection that would be easy to implement:
I received two spoof emails today with the following in their source:
    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run
I NEVER wish to see these illegal messages in my inbox.
  3. Please could you mark as spam/phish any email which contains a visible href address (or perhaps just the domain) that is different from the actual one.

Thanks.
